Rotary Drills
CAT ROTARY DRILL FEATURES Solid Structures Heavy-duty structural tubing and box section frames provide exceptional durability. Caterpillar undercarriages with three-point oscillating suspension, GLT (grease lubricated tracks, double post upper carrier rollers). Sturdy Mast Eachmodel can be configured with various mast lengths to suit specific application requirements for single pass or multi pass drilling. Designed with double-cut lacing in high stress areas to assure long life, mast structures are made of rectangular ASTM 500 Grade B steel tubing for all main chords, cross members and lacing. This design ensures a torsionally strong mast struc- ture and reduces deflection and material fatigue. Four Jack System Jack casing assemblies are integrally welded to the main frame providing structural strength and durability and reduce torsional flexing of the main frame. The four leveling jacks are positioned to provide excel- lent stability and weight over the hole plus assure four points of contact at all times while drilling. HOBO Wrench The Hydraulically Operated Break Out wrench is part of a highly efficient breakout system that increases speed of pipe changing operations, consequently increasing productivity. The hydraulic break out wrench is operated from the cab thus protecting the operator. It also reduces impact loading to the mast and rotary head during pipe changes, further increasing drill mechan- ical availability. NOTE: MD6640 does not store complete drill string in pipe racks.
Power Group Fast cycle times are achieved through top of class bit load, rotary head horsepower, bailing air and a multi- tude of time-saving systems for maximum efficiency. Carousel Pipe Rack Option All Cat drills are equipped with a pipe rack system. The carousel pipe rack allows rapid pipe changes safely and efficiently and completely controlled from inside of operator’s cab. On the MD6290 or MD6420C, an optional hammer/ tricone carousel allows the operator to rack a complete drill string (with either DTH hammer and bit, or tricone bit) in the carousel. This flexibility allows the operator to change drilling method as quickly as removing or adding a standard drill pipe. Ergonomic Cab The FOPS certified operator’s cab features well orga- nized controls, ergonomic operators seat and climate control. The cab is sound and thermally insulated keeping noise levels low and the operator safe and comfortable. Dust Control System Part of the stationary rear drill deck, the dust cham- ber with heavy duty rubber dust curtains and optional hydraulic lifters front and rear, assures (no visible emis- sion) dust containment. Dust chambers are designed with ample space for deep hole drilling to capture material flushing from the hole and build the resulting cuttings pile.
